Pumas to join Tri Nations

14 09 2009

Argentina is doing really well in other sports to compensate the football disaster. After Juan Martin Del Potro trashed Rafael Nadal in a US Open semi-final another piece of great news emerged today. The rugby national team of Argentina called “pumas” will join Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in the prestigious Tri Nations competition starting with the year 2012. I guess it will be known as Four Nations from now on ? ;)

The “pumas” are 2007 World Cup semi-finalists and form a strong team. They were set to join the 6 Nations tournament but their southern position favorised a much better outcome for them. Pumas, springbox and wallabies … a strong field but I will always favor the mighty All Blacks !

Guess who’s back …

Michael Schumacher will once again ride his red Ferrari in Formula 1. The living legend is set to replace Felipe Massa, injured in the Hungarian GP, for the Valencia race. The exciting come-back is still in doubt, the only way Schumacher will drive again is if he passes a series of phisical tests.

2009 Post Danmark Rundt – stage 1

29 07 2009

The first stage of the Tour of Denmark was a 175 km trek from Hirtshals to Rebild. The stage was won by dane Matti Breschel of the dane team Saxo Bank. The Saxo Bank all dane line-up looks set to win this tour but the continental Cervelo Test Team looks quite evenly matched on paper, with the lithuanian Konovalovas, winner of the final time trial in Il Giro set to wipe the field at the ITT.

A mention: Michael “Chicken” Rasmussen, whose suspension expired on the 25th of July is not entered in the race, altough he expressed his desire to compete. Rasmussen already competed in the Designa Grand Prix in Kjellerup and finished second.

BMW exit Formula 1

29 07 2009

Bmw_Logo_Fullcolor BMW leave Formula 1 only 4 years after buying Sauber and announcing their big goal:  winning the championship with a 100% BMW team. Now the german manufacturer retires due  to the world crisis and poor results in the ongoing season. For the huge company making a  leap in environmental friendly new cars is more important as car sales are constantly falling  and people are going “green”.

The impact on Formula 1 is not that big. Look at the Honda pull out last December, a move  that made current championship leader Brawn GP possible. And with 3 more teams lined up to  join the series all seems to go well. Except for the broken hearts of BMW fans that is.
